To become a licensed massage therapist in Hawai‘i, students must complete a 570-hour state-approved program and pass the board exam.
At T.E.M.A., the program is designed to prepare students for both licensure and professional practice.
Students gain experience working with clients, developing practical understanding, and building the confidence needed to work in real-world settings.
What You’ll Learn
Phase I: Foundations (50 hours)
Develop a working understanding of the body and the fundamentals of therapeutic touch.
Includes anatomy, physiology, hygiene, ethics, communication, and professional setup.
Phase II: Techniques & Application (100 hours)
Learn to deliver full-body sessions with proper body mechanics and care.
Modalities include Thai Bodywork (Level I), Swedish, Lomi Lomi, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Prenatal, and more.
Phase III: Clinical Practice (420 hours)
Work directly with clients in a supervised setting.
Includes intake, documentation, feedback, and hands-on therapeutic work.
Total Program Hours: 570

We also offer short-format training for those interested in exploring Thai bodywork or continuing their education (CE).

Applicants will be asked to provide a valid form of identification.
Students must meet Hawai‘i State health requirements, including TB clearance, prior to beginning in-person training.
Classes are held three days per week from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The program combines in-person training with guided study completed outside of class. Hands-on training and clinical application are completed in person, while foundational coursework such as anatomy and theory is supported through structured learning.
Program completion time varies based on attendance, progress, and participation in additional training opportunities.
Consistent participation in both in-person training and guided study is required to maintain steady progress through the program.
Thai Esan Muscular Arts (T.E.M.A.) was founded by Jenn Songsorn, Instructor and Licensed Massage Therapist from Esan, Thailand.
T.E.M.A. was created to carry forward Thai bodywork through a structured and accessible training environment.
Today, the program continues to grow with instructors trained through T.E.M.A., supporting students across all levels of learning.
